Staying Kind in an Unkind World coming soon

A new book exploring disciplined kindness as a leadership capability in demanding environments.

Staying Kind in an Unkind World is the forthcoming release from author and speaker Kate Baker. Drawing on more than two decades in frontline policing, community advocacy and leadership practice, the book examines what it takes to remain steady, principled and humane when pressure is constant and performance is expected.

In high stress environments, the cost of sustained pressure is not always visible at first. It can show up as quiet cynicism, emotional shutdown or cultural drift long before burnout becomes obvious. This book addresses that erosion directly.

Rather than framing kindness as softness, Kate presents it as a disciplined leadership capability. One that strengthens decision making, protects integrity and sustains culture over time.

Blending lived experience with research and practical frameworks, Staying Kind in an Unkind World offers leaders and teams clear strategies for regulating under strain, holding boundaries without dehumanising others and building environments where accountability and empathy coexist.

The book is shaped by the same ethos that runs through The Kind Rebellion. Strength without hardening. Clarity without cruelty. Performance without the loss of humanity.

For Kate, this work has never been theoretical. From managing hospitality venues in fast paced city environments, to more than twenty years in operational policing, to public advocacy and community liaison roles, kindness has been the consistent thread. Not as a personality trait, but as a way of leading and serving.

Staying Kind in an Unkind World brings that thread into focus and offers a practical framework for those who want to lead, work and live without losing their integrity along the way.

The book is currently in development and will be released soon.
