The Courage to Be Kind: Talking to Amit Singh on the STRONG Legacy Podcast

I recently had the genuine privilege of joining Amit Singh for Episode 32 of his STRONG Legacy Podcast, The Courage to Be Kind: Leadership, Power & Humanity.

We had a thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation about the ideas at the heart of The Kind Rebellion: what kindness looks like under pressure, how empathy and accountability can coexist, and what leaders can do to build trust without stepping away from difficult decisions or honest conversations.

Drawing on my 23 years in policing, we explored what high-pressure environments taught me about people, power, courage and resilience. We also spoke about the danger of cynicism, the role of boundaries in genuine kindness, and why remaining human in difficult places requires far more strength than simply becoming hardened by them.

The conversation also gave me an opportunity to reflect on reinvention, the work I’m now building, and the legacy I hope to leave behind. For me, legacy is not simply what someone achieves or creates. It is what continues in other people because they encountered us.
